valentine swaps

I'm not usually a fan of valentines, but I like making items for swaps so I signed up for two. Everything should be delivered by now so I'm going to show pictures.

Swap #1 was over at Debby's, we sent 5 hearts and will receive 5 in the mail. I knew I wanted to make a shadow box from a heart shaped candy box but had absolutely no idea what to make. I finally came across some inspiration and Viola! My Creation:

Swap #2 was over at Erica's and I was partnered up with "E" from honeysuckle hollow. She should have received it by now... if you didn't then don't look!!

I do have to admit that I didn't QUITE follow the instructions for the swap (anyone who knows me will not be surprised). We were suppose to decorate two small valentine candy boxes... but... I needed more room for my collage to fit, so I made a candy box and a canvas creation plus some other crafty bits as tuck ins.
Every time I read it I sing,
All you need is love...wont...wont...wont...waaaaaa...Love is all you need.
A special Thank You to Vivian for your suggestions on "cuteing" up my valentines. =]

two cats

Ms.L is having roommate issues and needed to move. Luckily for her it's only downstairs, but her new roommate has dogs, so Mr.L and I are temporally a two cat household.
My cat is named Blackjack but he answers to "PSST". He is an 11 year old, 12 pound, Garfield'esque' short haired tuxedo. He loves to be held like a baby and is my cuddle bunny. He is very social and likes people.
His idea of being out of the way.
Ms.L's cat is named Linus but I call him Fat Boy. He is a 4 year old, 17 pound (Yes! you heard right 17 pounds!), slightly skittish, quiet, long haired tuxedo. He is social but Do Not pick him up.
You should see his kitty butt spread.
Linus has adjusted to his new surroundings and us pretty quickly and Blackjack while not crazy about having another cat in the house has not fought with Linus. Of course that requires too much energy and goes against his principles of Do Nothing Unnecessary.

With Linus here I've come to a disturbing realization. I know a "mother's" love is blind and it's taken this visit to show me that Blackjack is a snob. What disturbs me is, is it a case of nurture or nature? If it's the nature of being a cat okay, but if it's a case of nurture what does that say of me? Have I given him too much without enough boundaries? I don't think so, when he goes outside he come back when I tell him to. Is it the only child syndrome?
And I thought once Ms.L was grown up we wouldn't have to worry about these things any more. Sheez!
If it ever becomes necessary to quantify our love for Ms.L I'm using the above photo as proof. It is a 5x3 inch, sticky, hairy ball made up of the disposable lint roller papers after I got done de-hairifying the living room furniture and kitchen chairs. This is a daily occurrence.

a hair cut for my sister

I have been letting my hair grow for the last 2 1/2 years to donate to Locks of Love when it was long enough as a sort of cosmic Thank You for when my sister got her wig when she was going through chemo for breast cancer in 2010. Last Thursday was the big day. I had 12 inches cut off plus another inch for styling.

From this...
To this...
I keep having to put shampoo back in the bottle and I keep trying to bring my hair over my right shoulder to get it out of the way, it takes me 2 instead of 15 minutes to dry my hair and the funniest part is I now wake up with a really bad case of bed head! It is so not pretty!!

new craft room

I'm a lucky girl!
I wasn't expecting a Christmas present from Mr.L because Ms.L and I are going to Belgium this summer.  Mr.L gave me TWO surprises while our handyman was here building storage shelves in the garage.

Surprise #1 - He had a rolling workbench built for my saws and glass grinder and my own set of garage shelves. Be still my heart!!!

Surprise #2 - If that wasn't enough he changed some of his plans for the garage so I could have shelves built in my craft room and have my desk re-oriented. I was swooning!!!
I won't bore you with the whole process (the de-cluttering and organizing) but I did want to show off my new looking room.

To make better use of the space and get more daylight I had my desk moved in front of the window.
I've been wanting to take everything off the walls for a while and redecorate, this was the perfect time to scale down and concentrate on a few things instead of an over abundance. Trust me it might not look scaled down but it is.
I went back and forth about putting floor to ceiling shelves in the closet. This ended up being a good compromise. If necessary there is still room to allow for a clothes rod.  It makes me happy to see everything labeled and in it's place.

Did I say I'm spoiled?! What do you think of my custom built, built in cabinet? Alec (our handy, handyman) and I designed the center shelves to fit my cardboard storage boxes and openings for my apothecary jars. By moving my desk it allowed for a small sitting area that Mr.L has all ready used.
I was going through craft room withdrawals so I spent an afternoon making two "new" bulletin boards out of thrift shop items. I paid $6.00 for the supplies. Most of that was on the smaller of the two frames, but it was too cute to pass up.

As I put everything back in it's new and proper place if it didn't have a spot for a label I made a tag from an old deck of cards.
I was the lucky recipient of one of Elizabeth's love bugs, he showed up just in time to claim his spot on a newly painted shelf.  Isn't he sweet.
I still have some futzing to do but for the most part everything is right where I want it.
Have a Wonderful Week!!

extistential question

Why is it when you cook a turkey it's called roasting, but when you cook a pie it's called baking?

did it work?

I'm having a hard time uploading photos (along with other it seems) I thought I would try a little experiment... It's a round about way to upload photos but, if you can see these then it worked!
Last Friday I went for a walk and a neighbor down the street looked like they were having a garage sale, but no one was there so I continued on my walk. On my way back home I noticed a couple of people there and I stopped in. It seems the add didn't get in the newspaper, too bad for them but great for me!
I got everything on the counter for... (drum roll)  wait for it... $1.50! Can you believe it!!
The figures in the right hand corner are metal not plastic, they will make cute ornaments. I'm going to use the Santa heads as our stockings next year. The glass ornaments will be used for my wreath that I'm still working on.

I was super excited about the bottle brush trees, these are my first official vintage ones. Gold and Pink are not my favorite colors, but I'm kinda digging them.
I couldn't believe my luck, it still makes me giggle uncontrollably when I look at the photo.

weird weather

Oh! Woe Is Me... Here I am having to do yard work while the rest of you get to sit inside all warm and snuggly drinking hot cocoa and singing I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas... I know Christmas is over, don't ruin the image I'm going for.

We have been running the weather gambit here on and off for the past week. Get up in the morning to find frost on the ground and the car windows iced over. Mid morning is sunny and warm enough to be outside dead heading the plants because they are still flowering. Mid afternoon the sun is gone the temperature has dropped and dark rain clouds are rolling in. Early evening rain starts to fall until sometime early morning. Get up in the morning to find the car windows iced over again. Crazy!!

I did have photos to show you but for some reason I can't get them to upload no matter what form I try. Darn it!
