hide and seek at work

Before I get to the story let me give you a quick description of the main character. She is 3 years old, 30" tall and looks like a kewpie doll with glasses.
Her mom brings her to school every day instead of riding the bus. Today she was in too much of a hurry to play that she didn't hear her mom say goodbye. 10 minutes later she looks at me, says Mama and walks into the children's bathroom. I follow her not quite sure what she is trying to tell me. She wasn't upset just curious.
She says Mama? again and the light bulb clicks on in my head!
Let the game begin...
(me) Mommy went home, she'll come back later.
She walks to the adult bathroom and points at the door and says "Mama?"
I open the door, turn on the light and show her that it's empty. "No Mommy".
We walk to the next two doors (offices) and go through the same procedure.
Right about that time the teacher goes out the front door to get a student off the bus. My little charge walks to the open door, cups her hand around her mouth and yells MAMA! I'm smiling and giggling at this adorable display.
I walk her out the door, point to the parking lot and say "See no mommy, her car is gone". She is finally convinced that Mama isn't hiding anywhere and we go back inside to play in the rice table.
I love my job.

Enjoy your weekend! For those of you in the snow, stay warm.

  3. I would love your job too. I have two teenaged boys and I SO miss the innocence of babies and toddlers.
